RESUMO

This paper proposes an improved strategy for the MobileNetV2 neural network(I-MobileNetV2) in response to problems such as large parameter quantities in existing deep convolutional neural networks and the shortcomings of the lightweight neural network MobileNetV2 such as easy loss of feature information, poor real-time performance, and low accuracy rate in facial emotion recognition tasks. The network inherits the characteristics of MobilenetV2 depthwise separated convolution, signifying a reduction in computational load while maintaining a lightweight profile. It utilizes a reverse fusion mechanism to retain negative features, which makes the information less likely to be lost. The SELU activation function is used to replace the RELU6 activation function to avoid gradient vanishing. Meanwhile, to improve the feature recognition capability, the channel attention mechanism (Squeeze-and-Excitation Networks (SE-Net)) is integrated into the MobilenetV2 network. Experiments conducted on the facial expression datasets FER2013 and CK + showed that the proposed network model achieved facial expression recognition accuracies of 68.62% and 95.96%, improving upon the MobileNetV2 model by 0.72% and 6.14% respectively, and the parameter count decreased by 83.8%. These results empirically verify the effectiveness of the improvements made to the network model.

RESUMO

Catalytic hydroalkylation reaction of alkenes with benzylic hydrocarbons involving t-BuOK/DMF-mediated benzylic C-H bond activation is demonstrated. This direct and operational simple protocol affords a rapid and reliable access to a wide scope of benzylic compounds in good-to-excellent yields. The benzylic C-H's of either activated diarylmethanes (pKa ∼ 32.2) and benzyl thioethers (pKa ∼ 30.8) or inert alkylbenzenes could all act as useful synthetic platforms to be conveniently alkylated under mild reaction conditions.

Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) is a critical technology for underwater communication, providing high speed, low latency, and security advantages. However, the strong attenuation in the water channel still limits the UWOC systems and their performances require further improvement. In this study, an orbital angular momentum (OAM) multiplexing UWOC system that uses photon-counting detection is experimentally demonstrated. By employing a single-photon counting module to receive photon signals, we analyze the bit error rate (BER) and photon-counting statistics by building a theoretical model that fits the real system, and demodulate the OAM states in single photon level and implement signal processing using field programmable gate array (FPGA) programming. Based on these modules, a 2-OAM multiplexed UWOC link is established over a water channel of 9 m. By using on-off keying modulation and 2-pulse position modulation, we achieve a BER of 1.26×10-3 with data rate of 20Mbps and 3.17×10-4 with data rate of 10Mbps respectively, which below the forward error correction (FEC) threshold of 3.8×10-3. The total transmission loss is 37 dB under an emission power of 0.5 mW, which is equivalent to the attenuation of 283 m Jerlov I type seawater from the perspective of energy loss. Our verified communication scheme will benefit the development of long-range and high-capacity UWOC.

Antibiotics are commonly used to treat bacterial infections, but the misuse and abuse of antibiotics have given rise to a severe problem of the drug resistance of bacteria. Solving this problem has been a vitally important task in the modern medical arena. Antibacterial peptide (AMPs) has become a promising candidate drug to replace antibiotics because of their broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and their difficulty in making bacteria resistant. However, its wider clinical application is limited by the shortcomings of high cytotoxicity and low antibacterial efficiency. In this paper, we constructed an antibacterial peptide (Cu-GGH-KKLRKIAFK, abbreviated as Cu-GGH-AMP) with a DNA cleavage function. The peptide has two functional regions, the C-terminal antibacterial peptide PaDBS1R6F10 (KKLRLKIAFK) and the N-terminal Cu-GGH complex. PaDBS1R6F10 is a unique antibacterial peptide, which shows lower tendency to produce bacterial resistance than traditional antibiotics. Cu-GGG complexes are formed by chelating Cu with the classical amino terminal Cu (II)- and Ni (II) -Binding (ATCUN) motif GGH. In the presence of ascorbic acid, Cu-GGH can efficiently catalyze the oxidative cleavage of bacterial DNA, thus playing a synergistic antibacterial role with antibacterial peptides. The in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated this functionalized antibacterial peptide possesses excellent antibacterial and anti-skin infection capability, as well as the activity of promoting wound healing.

Wireless optical communication is a crucial direction for improving the data transmission rate in underwater environments. In order to improve the communication performance over the water channel, this paper studies underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) employing polarization multiplexing modulation and photon counting detection. The improvements in bit error rates and communication capacities are analyzed theoretically by constructing the communication model of polarization multiplexing modulation UWOC based on photon counting. Under specific conditions, the polarization maintenance characteristics of photons over water channels are demonstrated by measuring the Mueller matrix, the fidelity of quantum states, depolarization ratio, and calculating the ratios of ballistic photons. Based on these results, by designing and developing the experimental system of UWOC with the polarization multiplexing modulation and photon counting detection, the data transmission rates of 14.58Mbps and 7.29Mbps are realized over a water channel of 92 m by using polarization on-off keying multiplexing modulation and polarization 2-pulse-position multiplexing modulation, respectively.

Polarization encoding quantum key distribution has been proven to be a reliable method to build a secure communication system. It has already been used in an inter-city fiber channel and near-Earth atmosphere channel, leaving an underwater channel the last barrier to conquer. Here we demonstrate a decoy-state BB84 quantum key distribution system over a water channel with a compact system design for future experiments in the ocean. In the system, a multiple-intensity modulated laser module is designed to produce the light pulses of quantum states, including signal state, decoy state, and vacuum state. Classical communication and synchronization are realized by wireless optical transmission. Multiple filtering techniques and wavelength division multiplexing are further used to avoid cross talk of different lights. We test the performance of the system and obtain a final key rate of 245.6 bps with an average quantum bit error rate of 1.91% over a 2.4 m water channel, in which the channel attenuation is 16.35 dB. Numerical simulation shows that the system can tolerate up to 21.7 dB total channel loss and can still generate secure keys in 277.9 m Jerlov type I ocean channel.

Background: Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease. The correlation between intestinal microbiota and immune-mediated diseases makes scientists pay attention to the pathogenic role of microbiota. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the gut microbial composition of patients with psoriasis. Methods: 16S rRNA gene sequencing method was used to analyse the faecal samples which was collected from 28 moderately severe psoriasis patients and 21 healthy controls and was followed by the analysing of informatics methods. Results: No visible differences can be observed in the diversity of gut microbiota between the psoriasis and the healthy patients, but the composition of the gut microbiota illustrate significant distinction between these two groups. At the phylum level, compared to the healthy control group, the psoriasis group shows higher relative abundance of Bacteroidetes and lower relative abundance of Proteobacteria (P < 0.05). At the genus level, unidentified_Enterobacteriaceae, unidentified_Lachnospiraceae, Romboutsia, Subdoligranulum, unidentified_Erysipelotrichaceae, Dorea were relatively less abundant in psoriasis patients, whereas Lactobacillus, Dialister were relatively more abundant in psoriasis group (all P < 0.05). LefSe analysis (linear discriminant analysis effect size) indicated that Negativicutes and Bacteroidia were potential biomarkers for psoriasis. Conclusion: This study identified the intestinal microecological environment of patients with psoriasis and healthy people, proving that psoriasis patients have a remarkably disturbed microbiome, and found several biomarkers of intestinal microorganisms in patients with psoriasis.

To establish whether pig tail posture is affected by injuries and ill health, a machine vision system using 3D cameras to measure tail angle was used. Camera data from 1692 pigs in 41 production batches of 42.4 (±16.6) days in length over 17 months at seven diverse grower/finisher commercial pig farms, was validated by visiting farms every 14(±10) days to score injury and ill health. Linear modelling of tail posture found considerable farm and batch effects. The percentage of tails held low (0°) or mid (1-45°) decreased over time from 54.9% and 23.8% respectively by -0.16 and -0.05%/day, while tails high (45-90°) increased from 21.5% by 0.20%/day. Although 22% of scored pigs had scratched tails, severe tail biting was rare; only 6% had tail wounds and 5% partial tail loss. Adding tail injury to models showed associations with tail posture: overall tail injury, worsening tail injury, and tail loss were associated with more pigs detected with low tail posture and fewer with high tails. Minor tail injuries and tail swelling were also associated with altered tail posture. Unexpectedly, other health and injury scores had a larger effect on tail posture- more low tails were observed when a greater proportion of pigs in a pen were scored with lameness or lesions caused by social aggression. Ear injuries were linked with reduced high tails. These findings are consistent with the idea that low tail posture could be a general indicator of poor welfare. However, effects of flank biting and ocular discharge on tail posture were not consistent with this. Our results show for the first time that perturbations in the normal time trends of tail posture are associated with tail biting and other signs of adverse health/welfare at diverse commercial farms, forming the basis for a decision support system.

We demonstrate the underwater quantum key distribution (UWQKD) over a 10.4-meter Jerlov type III seawater channel by building a complete UWQKD system with all-optical transmission of quantum signals, a synchronization signal and a classical communication signal. The wavelength division multiplexing and the space-time-wavelength filtering technology are applied to ensure that the optical signals do not interfere with each other. The system is controlled by FPGA and can be easily integrated into watertight cabins to perform the field experiment. By using the decoy-state BB84 protocol with polarization encoding, we obtain a bit rate of secure keys of 1.82 Kbps and an error rate of 1.55% at the attenuation of 13.26 dB. We prove that the system can tolerate the channel loss up to 23.7 dB and therefore may be used in the 300-meter-long Jerlov type I clean seawater channel.

AIM AND OBJECTIVE: The synthesis of bipyridines, especially 2, 2'-bipyridines, remains challenging because the catalytic cycle can be inhibited due to coordination of bipyridine to transition metal. Thus, the development of efficient methods for the synthesis of bipyridines is highly desirable. In the present work, we presented a promising approach for preparation of bipyridines via a Pd-catalyzed reductive homocoupling reaction with simple piperazine as a ligand. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Simple and inexpensive piperazine was used as a ligand for Pd-catalyzed homocoupling reaction. The combination of Pd(OAc)2 and piperazine in dimethylformamide (DMF) was observed to form an excellent catalyst and efficiently catalyzed the homocoupling of azaarenyl halides, in which DMF was used as the solvent without excess reductants although stoichiometric reductant was generally required to generate the low-oxidation-state active metal species in the catalytic cycles. RESULTS: In this case, good to excellent yields of bipyridines and their (hetero) aromatic analogues were obtained in the presence of 2.5 mol% of Pd(OAc)2 and 5 mol% of piperazine, using K3PO4 as a base in DMF at 140°C. CONCLUSION: According to the results, piperazine as an inexpensive and efficient ligand was used in the Pd(OAc)2-catalyzed homocoupling reaction of heteroaryl and aryl halides. The coupling reaction was operationally simple and displayed good substrate compatibility.

Tail biting is a major welfare and economic problem for indoor pig producers worldwide. Low tail posture is an early warning sign which could reduce tail biting unpredictability. Taking a precision livestock farming approach, we used Time-of-flight 3D cameras, processing data with machine vision algorithms, to automate the measurement of pig tail posture. Validation of the 3D algorithm found an accuracy of 73.9% at detecting low vs. not low tails (Sensitivity 88.4%, Specificity 66.8%). Twenty-three groups of 29 pigs per group were reared with intact (not docked) tails under typical commercial conditions over 8 batches. 15 groups had tail biting outbreaks, following which enrichment was added to pens and biters and/or victims were removed and treated. 3D data from outbreak groups showed the proportion of low tail detections increased pre-outbreak and declined post-outbreak. Pre-outbreak, the increase in low tails occurred at an increasing rate over time, and the proportion of low tails was higher one week pre-outbreak (-1) than 2 weeks pre-outbreak (-2). Within each batch, an outbreak and a non-outbreak control group were identified. Outbreak groups had more 3D low tail detections in weeks -1, +1 and +2 than their matched controls. Comparing 3D tail posture and tail injury scoring data, a greater proportion of low tails was associated with more injured pigs. Low tails might indicate more than just tail biting as tail posture varied between groups and over time and the proportion of low tails increased when pigs were moved to a new pen. Our findings demonstrate the potential for a 3D machine vision system to automate tail posture detection and provide early warning of tail biting on farm.

RESUMO

An intriguing C-N transformation involving a catalyst-free N-alkylation/N'-arylation process in a multicomponent reaction with secondary amines, cyclic tertiary amines and electron-deficient aryl halides has been described. In this case, the N-alkylation of secondary amines, utilizing cyclic tertiary amines as alkyl group sources, is enabled by a facile C-N cleavage. Such an operationally simple method could facilitate access to aromatic aminoalkyl amines, nitrogen-containing bioactive molecules, in good to excellent yields.

RESUMO

An efficient base-catalyzed synthesis of arylated pyridines has been disclosed. This reaction involving conjugated acetylenes and substituted benzylamines proceeded smoothly, giving rise to tri-aryl substituted pyridines which are biologically relevant compounds in good to excellent yields in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) under air at 140 °C with K2CO3 as catalyst.

RESUMO

A novel and catalyst-free multicomponent reaction with cyclic tertiary amines, electron-deficient aryl halides or heteroaromatic halides, and Na2 S enabled by facile C-N bond cleavage of the cyclic tertiary amines was developed. This direct and operationally simple method can be applied with a wide range of functional groups and provides an efficient and rapid approach to potentially drug-like products containing amine, azaarene, thioether, or phenol ether functionalities in good to excellent yields. The utility of this method was demonstrated by the rapid synthesis of the analgesic ruzadolane.

The aim of this study was to investigate the association between peroxisome proliferator-activator receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) genotype and additional gene-smoking interaction on cardiovascular disease (CVD) based on a Chinese population. A total of 1248 subjects (613 men, 635 women), with a mean age of 55.5±11.8 years old, were selected, including 620 CVD patients and 628 normal controls. Logistic regression was performed to investigate association between single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and CVD. Generalized MDR (GMDR) was used to analysis the gene-environment interaction, cross-validation consistency, the testing balanced accuracy, and the sign test, to assess each selected interaction were calculated. The carriers of homozygous mutant of two SNP revealed increased CVD risk than those with wild-type homozygotes, OR (95% CI) were 1.31 (1.16-1.95) and 1.68 (1.29-2.06), respectively. GMDR analysis for one- to three-locus models indicated that there was a significant two-locus model (p=0.0107) involving rs1805192 and smoking, indicating a potential gene-gene interaction between rs1805192 and smoking. Overall, the two- locus models had a cross-validation consistency of 10 of 10, and had the testing accuracy of 62.17%. We found that smokers with Pro/Ala or Ala/Ala genotype have highest CVD risk, compared to non-smokers with Pro/Pro genotype, OR (95% CI) was 3.46 (1.31-3.42), after covariates adjustment. We found a significant association between genotypes of variants in rs10865710 and rs1805192 with increased CVD risk and a potential gene-gene interaction between rs1805192 and smoking.

Although immuno-inflammatory response contributes to pathogenesis of AF, molecular and cellular mechanism in this process remains poorly understood. Recently, increasing evidence suggests that Programmed death-1 (PD-1)/PD-1 ligand (PD-L) pathway may be a potential pathway participating in AF pathogenesis. In this study, we detected the PD-1 and PD-L1, 2 expression on peripheral blood function cells by flow cytometry in 91 atrial fibrillation (AF) patients and 35 healthy volunteers. The expression of PD-1 on CD(4+) T cells and PD-L1 on myeloid dendritic cells (mDCs) in AF patients is significantly down-regulated compared with healthy volunteers. In addition, the extent of PD-1/PD-L1 down-regulation is closely related with AF burden. More importantly, Allogeneic mixed leukocyte reactions (MLR) shows that the mDCs PD-L1 down-regulation is associated with increased T cell (CD(4+) and CD(8+)) proliferation, increased type 1 effector cytokines (IL-2 and IFN-γ) secretion, and decreased type 2 effector cytokine (IL-10) secretion. Then, PD-L1 up-regulation by the stimulation of IFN-α can significantly convert this representation. Collectively, our report suggest that T(CD(4+))/mDCs-associated PD-1/PD-L1 pathway plays a key role in AF immune regulation. PD-1/PD-L1 down-regulation in AF patients promotes T cells function and may contribute to AF pathogenesis.

RESUMO

An efficient protocol for the generation of amines by palladium-catalyzed nucleophilic benzylic addition of 2-methyl-substituted azaarenes to N-sulfonyl aldimines under neutral conditions via C-H bond activation has been developed. This reaction represents a very efficient methodology for the synthesis of heterocycle-containing amines and thus opens a new way to access amines through C-H bond activation.
